20 Nov The South Stand App
Guest post by Michael Wallis.
I got the idea for a Derby County Fans App from a former colleague who did something similar for Stoke City supporters containing a fixture list, news feed and stats. So I took this idea and ran with it, adding loads more features, where I wanted to create a real interactive, content-heavy app which DCFC supporters really couldn’t do without.
We chose the name ‘The South Stand’ as everyone would identify with this, as the South Stand at the iPro stadium is recognised as the place to be, we toyed with names such as ‘Pop Side’ or ‘Ram Arena’ but we thought these might be lost on the younger audience.
As well as the Fixture List, Newsfeed and Stats, the App’s main features are the Match Reports and Fan Articles, all written by rams fans who put real pride and passion into their writing. A new feature for the 2015/16 season is the ‘Away Day Guide’ packed with advice on where to park, where to drink and how to get to each of Derby’s opponent’s grounds. We have also teamed up with many other fan groups, such as the ‘Punjabi Rams’ ‘DCFC 1884 Group’ and the ‘DCFC’ and ‘Him & Dad’ Podcasts, we each have a presence on each others websites or twitter pages, we work together to get our messages across and promote each other, and why not? We all want the same thing….success and promotion for our beloved Derby County!
We are also proud to be associated with the new Mr Shaw brand. Karl really has created a brilliant range of retro DCFC T-shirts. I’m sure they will create a buzz amongst fans. I’ve already got mine, and have already dropped hints to my wife that they will make great gifts for future birthdays and Christmases.
‘A Little Bit of Ramage’
We have also been lucky to secure the services of former rams player Craig Ramage, who reviews performances, answers questions and predicts results in his fortnightly ‘A Little Bit of Ramage’ audio piece. Craig is Derby born and bred, and his passion and love for the club really shines through, and so far this season, he has yet to predict Derby to lose! I have often wondered, should the Rams get promoted to the Premier League, will he be so bold against the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea?
Since the App went live on March 16th this year, we have had over 2500 downloads, and this continues to grow each week as the word gets around. I already have plans for new features for next season, which will hopefully see the Rams competing in English football’s top tier, a place I sincerely believe we belong.
